Thai cuisine offers two types of spices: dry and moist. Dry spices are generally ground, while wet spices can be crushed or pounded finely.

What's the difference between cooking whole and with ground spices? Ground Spices?

There are no significant differences in the cooking of whole and ground spices. After harvesting, all spices are ground. It doesn't make a difference in terms of quality.

However, the price difference is substantial. Whole spices cost more because of the labour involved in processing them. However, the flavor is worth it.

Buy whole spices and you'll often receive additional discounts. If you buy a whole bag of cinnamon sticks, you may get a discount.

The same applies to nutmeg and cloves, ginger or cardamom. These spices can be purchased in bulk to save money.

Ground spices last much longer than whole spices. This is because ground spices lose their potency quickly due to oxidation.

The main reason we recommend whole spices over dried is that they can add lots of flavor to recipes.

For instance, you can make a delicious curry with whole turmeric instead of ground turmeric. Or you can grind whole coriander seeds to create a spice blend for chicken dishes.

The process of grinding spices takes a lot of time. It makes sense to purchase large quantities of whole spices when you are buying them. That way, you won't run out of spices too fast.

How to store spices for cooking?

Here's how to store your cooking spices for maximum performance. First, we must understand how food is stored.

Spices are stored in airtight containers away from the light because exposure to light diminishes their flavour. This is due oxygen reacting with organic compounds such that spices, causing oxidation.

To prevent oxidation, spices should be stored in dark cupboards. Spices will lose their flavour quickly if the conditions aren’t met.

It is the best way to preserve spices' flavours by keeping them out of direct sunlight.

You can flavor water by adding herbs and spices. Mix two teaspoons of ground cinnamon and 1/2 cup warm water. Stir well. Add a squeeze of lemon juice and serve immediately.

You can add dried herbs and spices to soups, stews, casseroles, pasta, rice dishes, salads, and desserts. Sprinkle the spice mixture evenly on the dish, and let it sit for five to ten minutes before you serve.

Leftover cooked vegetables, fruits and meats, as well as leftover cheese, breads, crackers, cookies or cakes can be added to favorite recipes for snacks.

To get the best flavours from fresh herbs and spices, cut them or tear them and add them to hot foods. You can freeze herbs or spices by placing them on ice cube tray or muffin cups. Once frozen, transfer them to freezer bags and zip-top plastic bag.
